I am Debra, a counsellor and a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (BACP). I work with clients from a person-centred perspective. I am passionate about using my skills to work with clients to overcome personal challenges and move towards a happier and more satisfying life. I adhere to the values of respect, trust, fairness and honesty within my work.
I am Person-Centred counsellor, which means that I focus on being genuine, non-judgemental and compassionate. However, I believe that one theory might not make sense or be applicable to everyone, and what helps one client may not help another. A single technique or approach might not be able to help every person. It is therefore important to work with clients in the way that best suits them, so they can get the most from their therapy experience.
I have experience of working with clients who have experienced trauma or significant stressors in their lives – working with them to develop a healthy perception of themselves, in order for them to become a more peaceful, secure, safe and complete self.
Training, qualifications & experience
I hold a Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling. I am a registered member of the British Association of Counsellors and Psychotherapists (Reg MBACP). I am currently in my final year of a BSC (Hons) in Psychotherapy and Counselling at Marjon University and hope to continue onto a MSc Advanced Psychotherapy and Counselling Studies in September. I hold a Diploma in Solution Focused Hypnotherapy (DSFH) and NFCE accredited Hypnotherapy in Practice Diploma (HPD). First Light provided specialist training in domestic abuse and sexual violence and 100 hours of placement training, and I now work as an independent counsellor for them.
