Therapist Biography
When I work with children, young people and their families I have a very open and curious approach; discovering a story, how it has developed and working with people to discover together how it might need to change. I am aware that there is not a “one size fits all” type of therapy and in my work I draw upon and integrate a variety of models including, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Systemic Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Narrative Therapy and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy.
I have 18 years’ experience of working with children and young people with a variety of mental health difficulties such as anxiety, depression, grief and loss, trauma, low self-esteem, friendship difficulties and self-harming behaviours.
Throughout my career I have worked across a variety of settings, including NHS CAMHS and a Child Development Centre, an independent fostering agency and independent practice. My career started in child development where I was involved with the assessments and interventions for children and their families with a range of developmental issues, including autism, ADHD and learning difficulties. My work often involved helping families to establish routines around a variety of problems, including sleep and difficulties with eating. From here my clinical interests developed and attachment theory became a core value to my work, which led me to train in DDP an attachment-based family therapy and to draw upon play based interventions such as Theraplay.
Since qualifying I have been a supervisor for Trainee Clinical Psychologists and have over 14 years’ experience delivering consultation and training to a range of professionals including social workers, foster carers and teachers.
