Counselling Adults, Young People and Children
I am dedicated to supporting people with anxiety, depression, stress and mental health issues, for your emotional wellbeing. You might find yourself repeating unhelpful patterns of behaviour, or a past experience has had an impact on your life and the time has come to make sense of them.
Maybe you would like to take some time to get to know yourself. Dragonfly Counselling & Psychotherapy offers a confidential, supportive and safe space to reflect. My person-centred approach means that together we will prioritise your needs, develop your own self, understand and express your feelings and process any inner conflicts. I believe you are the expert on your own life, I will create a space in which you will feel safe to explore, express yourself and feel comfortable. I will be there to support you and guide you as you find your way, find self-compassion, understanding and more. My role is to guide you along your way with the use of effective techniques and coping strategies, while feeling held. I work with wide-ranging emotional and behavioural difficulties, including Abuse, Autism, Anger Management, Anxiety, Bereavement, Depression, Low Mood, Eating disorders, Post-Traumatic Stress, Relationships, Self Esteem, Self-Harm, Sexual identity, Sexuality, Trauma etc. My specialism is working with Children and Young People (5yrs-25yrs). I am undertaking a Level 7 course to enhance my skills within this area. I use therapeutic play, incorporating age-appropriate CBT and mindfulness, creating a safe and
confidential space. I have extensive experience of supporting children and young people identified with autism spectrum conditions and other neurodiverse conditions. With therapy and support, young people will better understand themselves and their needs, enabling them to emotionally understand, building their resilience with a range of coping strategies and mindfulness.
Supporting Parents – Emotional Coaching/Systemic Work
I am passionate about working within the whole family, and offer a family system approach
to support parents and the wider network. Emotion Coaching is a valuable tool for parents to develop a deeper understanding of their child’s emotions and behaviours. Children can feel overwhelmed with ‘big’ feelings, leaving the child or young person to respond in the “flight, fight or freeze” response. These big feelings therefore leave a child feeling ‘out of control’ and a parent/parents seeing their child struggling with upsetting or ‘bad’ behaviour. I am here to support you and your family to help understand these feelings but also to help with strategies using varied theoretical models, to help your child to fully understand themselves but to also feel more in control.
I understand that reaching out for help can be the hardest thing to do. This is why I will walk with you at your pace, direction and needs. I am here for you. I offer a free 20-minute consultation, so you have a chance to get to know me and to decide if counselling is right for you or your child.
