What is EMDR?

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a psychological approach to reducing the anguish tied to traumatic memories.  EMDR therapy works on techniques to lessen the suffering for individuals who are dealing with traumatic memories, your counsellor will help you to process and recover the past therefore reduced affective distress, and improve your mental health and well-being.

EMDR involves a specific and structured format, including side-to-side eye movements and talk therapy.  It is a structured process that your counsellor will guide you through.  Any negative images, emotions, beliefs and/or sensations stored in the body related to the event can cause issues, and EMDR enables you to process these memories so they no longer have such a powerful impact. EMDR can help you see things from a different perspective and relieve the symptoms.  This approach can help with; anxiety (including OCD), depression, disassociation, eating disorders, trauma (including PTSD).  Dragonfly Well-Being Centre is a new venture, so we will be adding more therapists offering EMDR in Plymouth in the near future.
