Therapist Biography
Hello, I’m Lisa Chaffer. I am a fully qualified and registered Integrative Counsellor and Therapist, which means I use a range of therapeutic approaches according to your needs. These include Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Person-Centred Therapy, Gestalt therapy, Transpersonal Therapy and Compassion-Focused Therapy.
I would work with you to establish what you want to get from the counselling. Initially, you may not know what that is, so we would take time to talk about this. I aim to work collaboratively with you in a non-judgmental and friendly manner and help you make sense of your experiences.
Having worked as a counsellor in GP surgeries, for an Employee Assistance Programme and for a youth project, the ages of my clients range from 16 to 96. I have experience supporting clients with a wide range of issues including anxiety (including Emotionally Based School Avoidance – EBSA), depression, self-harm, suicidal thoughts, gender identity, sexual identity, grief, bereavement, anger and trauma. During my career, I have worked with a wide variety of clients who either have a diagnosis of neurodiversity or who suspect that they may be neurodiverse.
Prior to becoming a counsellor, I worked in education for 25 years. In both areas of work, I have found that helping people to help themselves has been an intuitive part of the way I work.
I offer space, whether in person or online, for you to talk freely without fear of judgment. I can help you to develop a greater awareness and understanding of yourself.
I offer a free 20-minute consultation so you can ask any questions. It is essential that you can choose the counsellor you feel would be the best fit for you.
I hold a certificate in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and I am registered with the NCPS, abiding by their Code of Ethics. I am fully insured and registered with the ICO.
Supervision:
Having qualified as a supervisor in 2024, I have supervised students and qualified counsellors at a variety of different stages in their professional development. I offer supervision both in-person and online.
It is important to me that we establish what you want to get out of each session so that they are led by you.
I am happy to offer you a free initial 30-minute meeting where you can ask questions and get a sense of whether I am the right supervisor for you. I will not expect you to tell me your decision at that meeting. I feel passionately that finding the right supervisor for you is essential and will help you to develop your practice in a way that feels fruitful for you.
